Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or Functional bowel disorders.

IBS is a common condition affecting about 30% of the population. It affects more women than men. IBS is a collection of unexplained symptoms including:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Bloating
  • Flatulence (wind)
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea (including urgency and incontinence)

It is not usual for people with IBS to experience other symptoms such as:

  • Headaches
  • Muscle and joint aches and pains
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea

Several things can cause IBS and include diet, stressful lifestyle events and other lifestyle factors. The low fodmap diet is used extensively in the treatment of IBS however Ali will not only look at your diet during a consultation. She treats in a holistic way and you will also talk about other factors such as stress and irregular meal habits and the impact these have on the gut.

Other dietary manipulations and advice on probiotics are given as required.
